BDA’s Apartment Lottery A Success

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the BDA’s new initiative of selecting apartment allottees through a lottery system in the city on Thursday. Nearly 500 persons were allotted apartments towards the end of the day, according to a BDA spokesman. “It will take another day or two for us to complete the process using the lottery system,” he said.

As many as 3,000 multi-storey apartments are available for allotment. A large number of people who were shortlisted for the allotment were present at the venue as Siddaramaiah and his cabinet colleagues pulled out token numbers from the lot.

The apartments are located in Nandini Layout, Alur, Malagala, Thippasandra, Halage Voderahalli, Kothnur, Doddabanahalli, Gunjur, Valagerahalli, Doddabanahalli, Valagerohalli Stage One, Two, Three and Four.

The first person whose name was read out by the Chief Minister — Suresh Babu, who was allotted a house in Valagerahalli — was not present at the function.
Speaking at the function, BDA Commissioner T. Sham Bhat said that the land for the housing projects came primarily from 326 acres of encroached government land that had been reclaimed. Of this, 190 acres had been utilised for the housing project so far, he said.

He said that the lottery system was used to distribute apartments among the shortlisted beneficiaries. To avoid favouritism, door numbers were allotted through a lottery, he added.
