Govt to check kids meals

The government is going to launch a new scheme to inspect and resolve infrastructure issues that include storage and kitchen facilities and quality of drinking water.

According to a senior government officer, steps were being put into place constituting a special team to monitor and check the quality of food served to children. The team will likely comprise nutritionist, food inspector, dietitian, doctor and members from drug-testing laboratories and will send feedback to the government after an inspection drive.

A vigilance team will also be formed which will involve officials from DDPI office, locals and parents. This team will randomly inspect schools where midday meals are served to make sure that all ingredients used for making the meals are of good quality and the foodgrain, vegetables and fruits are washed properly before they are used.
