Italian Spiedies Not Speedos

Spiedies are not Spiderman’s sandwiches but pronounced more like Spider Man's swimming trunks. The word is sandwich of Binghamton is derived from the Italian word “spiedo” meaning spit.

The sandwich is popular in Upstate New York and basically has meat cubes that are grilled over a spit or charcoal pit.
Cubes of chicken, pork, lamb, veal, venison or beef are marinated overnight in Italian spices, vinegar, olive oil and mint. Sometimes, in controlled environments, it can be marinated up to two weeks. These then skewered and grilled over a charcoal pit.
