Meet The Chef Rahul Hajarnavis

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Mumbai.

What led you to becoming a chef?
As a young 16 year old teenager, I used to watch Chef Martin Yan's "Yan Can Cook" every single day with my grandmother. Somewhere that really made a strong impact on my mind to take up culinary as a profession.

How long have you been a chef?
I have been a Chef for more than 16 years.

What do you enjoy more? Cooking or creating?
Every Chef has two phases in their professional life. I have enjoyed the cooking aspect a lot during my earlier years. And now I enjoy the creating wherein somewhere the final decision lies with me.

Do you feel there is virtue in preserving the authenticity of a cuisine?
Most definitely. But I also believe that any cuisine can be adapted to make it more interesting and innovating.

What dish do you like eating the most?
A good flavorful Biryani always lifts my spirit.

What’s your least favourite dish?
I try and like most of the dishes. But the one dish (or vegetable) that I don't really enjoy is Karela.
