Shogayaki

If you are playing jeopardy, your response would probably be “What is the Japanese pork dish?” Shogayaki literally means “shoga” meaning ginger and “yaki” which is grill. This ginger fry is usually made with pork. Beef is also an option. But if you were offered Shogayaki it’s likely that it would be made with pork.

With true Japanese precision, the country has decided that this is the second most popular pork dish in the country. We on the other hand cannot number our pork dishes in the order of popularity.

Because, this dish can be eaten cold too, it’s a favourite in bento boxes. Traditionally the dish is served with hot rice and shredded cabbage.
