Crimson exhibition by Shankar Kendale

Crimson exhibition by Shankar Kendale

Crimson is hosting am exhibition of paintings by artist Shankar Kendale, from Bengaluru,
The exhibition will begin of Friday,12th Oct 2018 and continue till 10th Nov 2018.

It has taken Shankar Kendale the better part of 50 years to hone his art. As a child he was always drawing and painting and though he took up Science for a while, due to parental pressure, the dictates of his heart soon brought him to the doorstep of Abhinav Kala Vidyalaya, Pune. With a graduation in Art under his belt, in 1975, he fine-tuned his passion for drawing in the minefields of advertising. For his excellent illustrations, calendar designs and advertising campaigns he received several Bangalore Advertising Club Awards. He worked as a Senior Art Director at Ogilvy & Mather Advertising and as a Consultant Art Director at Trikaya Gray. As a full time artist he has had several solo and group shows to his credit at leading galleries across India.

His drawings are exceptional. He uses his cross-hatching technique to weave textures onto a 2 dimensional plane. His treatment of pigeons lapping up seeds strewn by a temple devotee can compare with the best drawings by any of his contemporaries. His restrained but vibrant colour palate in his oil paintings gives him ample scope to capture the quite moments of temple life. His own faith, his ability to capture nuances in moods and behavior of his subjects, his calligraphic religious symbols, all combine to create a rich tapestry of life in warm tones in its inherent serenity. Spiritualism and nostalgia are seen in equal measure. His canvasses are peppered with tops, kites and toys that he played with as a child.
His portrayal of women and children displays a quiet resignation of the gender roles they are forced to play out with a waiting and perhaps a longing for ‘Achhe din’.

As Shankar is a Bangalore based artist, he can be contacted on Tel # 9845297738 and mail id and he would be most willing to answer any queries/ questions you may have
