Sampoorn presents Vastrabhushana 12th edition from 2nd – 6th Aug ~ Kickstart the Varamahalakshmi season with a  curated collection of handloom weaves from artisans and weavers from across the country

Sampoorn, the society for Crafts & Crafts People presents ‘Vastrabhushana’ a curated collection of handcrafted, hand spun sarees, yardage and looms.

The exhibition will be held from 2nd August to 6th August (5 days), at United Theological College, Millers road, near Cantonment Railway Station from 11AM to 7.30PM. The exhibition brings together weavers and designers one platform.

With a mix of  contemporary and traditional handcrafted sarees and hand-spun products,  Vastrabhushana will have a range of accessories and jewellery designed by artisans who are national and state awardees.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on 2nd August by Kannada television stars. Actors Hitha Chandrashekar, Anupama Gowda, Kavya Shastri, Ashita Chandrappa, Manasi Joshi and many others will walk the ramp to showcase the range of hand crafted, hand spun weaves at Vastrabhushana. The fashion show will start at 2.30PM and conclude by 4.45pm.

With an aim to revive and promote sustainable weaves and crafts, the five-day Vastrabhushana exhibition by Sampoorn provides an opportunity for weavers ,designers/craftsmen to sell their products directly to urban consumers.

From unique kotpad handloom from Orissa to intricate weaves from Varanasi, Vastrabhushana showcases well crafted, beautiful and intricate masterpieces by the finest weavers and designers of India. Some of the other weaves on display are ajrakh, patola, akola from Rajasthan, chettinad cottons, kanjivaram and block print sarees.  Among the unique weaves on display at Vastrabhushana is Veave Studio  from Varanasi, Okhai from Ahmedabad and Urmul from Rajasthan.

Showcasing the rich handloom heritage of Orissa is Padmashri award winner ‘Gobardhan Panika’ from Kotpad district of Orissa. With traditional tribal motifs and geometrical patterns, Gobardhan Panika’s products are made with 100% cotton with natural thread fibers. The event will also showcase textile revivalist Mr Arup Rakshit’s signature muslin and khadi fabrics from West Bengal. Apart from this, the Sustainable earth foundation will also showcase naturally dyed sustainable yardage and accessories.

Sampoorn will facilitate Padmashri award winning weaver Gobardhan Panika for his contribution to reviving Kotpad handloom.

Apart from exquisite weaves, Vastrabhushana will also have a Native Bazaar that has a potter’s pop up by Studio Designer potters. From ceramic bowls  to planters , the potter’s pop up offers  handcrafted ceramic ware along native crafts.
