Sketchup Workshop 001: KAPOW! Comic Book Preproduction with Art of Roshan

Spend the day with Roshan Kurichiyanil – illustrator and animator extraordinaire who will teach you the behind-the-scenes on what goes into making a Comic Book. This workshop will cover preproduction, or the planning of a comic.

In the first half of the workshop, the attendees will be taken through the concepts of storyline and plot, script, thumbnails, a dummy book, character designs, designing the key locations/environments and visual development/styling. Roshan will bring real life examples of a professionally written comic book script, penciled pages, inks and final colors from a few books he has worked on, as well as reference pages from other artists to see the variety of styles and approaches on storytelling that can be achieved.

In the second half of the workshop attendees will be given an activity to work on that will put into practice some of the concepts you have learned. It will be a sit-down-and-talk session, where Roshan will answer your questions, and spend time with each participant to review past work for feedback while you work on the activity. It’s a fun, happy, day interacting with other comic artists!
