#SocialWorks presents: Design Dash:

Complex to Clarity with The Think Factory at Church Street Social

Evolving Design Thinking for a progressive revolution to empower careers and skills in Design Sector through a series of masterclasses by The Think Factory at Church Street Social.

From driving a car, to using a smartphone. From booking tickets on an app to holding a vacuum cleaner, chances are that everyone have already experienced what good design can do. From products that use cutting edge technology to simple toothpaste cartons that fold out into lessons for rural school children; from high end precision medical devices to a more ergonomic toothbrush handle; human centered design helps create better products, services and experiences through a deeper understanding of people and their needs. Good design centers itself around the user and empathy for the user.

This is the incredible superpower that Design Thinking brings to a creative process – a deep and invested approach that is user centered. Design Thinking is a process that involves – mindfulness, planning, deliberate thought, rigor, iterative thinking, and more – which are all – in fact… designed, deliberate and intentional.

At The Think Factory, founders Amruta Shah, Yamini Reddy and Kavita Arvind, are firm believers that when done right, Design Thinking allows for a creative explosion! They believe that Design Thinking allows for the most equitable, democratic, meticulous and creative ways in which teams can work together. The Design Thinking masterclasses, workshops and personalised training sessions that The Think Factory conduct, enable creative problem solving, innovative thinking and newer perspectives. Their carefully customised Design Sprints bring to the creative process, unique ways in which clarity emerges from complex data; patterns emerge from disconnected fragments; and problems give way to opportunities.

Reddy, Shah and Arvind started The Think Factory as a way and means to consolidate their decades of experience as design practitioners & educators and further; bring their combined knowledge and expertise to a wider audience. Their workshops and sprints are relevant to businesses, entrepreneurs, policy makers, educators, students and other professionals from across backgrounds. The core idea that steers The Think Factory is that design is an inherently optimistic process, it is a progressive mindset that allows one to seek preferred future states. Be it a new product or service, an advertisement campaign, a new curriculum for different levels of learning, a brand, a playground, workspace for a growing office, health care, policy, governance and much more – design thinking has a critical role to play.

Workshops by The Think Factory will help participants unpack the Design Process, they will engage in hands on, immersive, interactive activities. Through the day long Design Dash participants will be introduced to tools, ways and methods that help in – understanding the user, mapping and defining the problem, recognising patterns, processes of synthesis, sketching to ideate and rapid prototyping. They will adapt design thinking as a way of creative thought and action, and will be able to approach situations and problems with unique perspectives. Perspectives that are not only informed, but collaborative, radical and even disruptive – unleashing out of the box innovative thinking.

The workshop is open to all; and an excellent opportunity to find an investigative and non-linear way of thinking that enables new directions and often – surprising discoveries!

As an extension of their core expertise, The Think Factory also lead customised, optimised, immersive hands on Design Sprints for corporates, businesses, NGOs, entrepreneurs and other organisations. These sprints take into consideration each organisation’s specific, unique needs and requirements and help them transform into design-led innovative, creative hubs.
Join The Think Factory for a day long Design Dash and kickstart this new year by acquiring essential creative thinking and making skills!
About the speakers:
ThinkFactory offers customised Design Thinking workshops. It is led by three design practitioners and educators : Kavita Arvind, Yamini Reddy and Amruta Shah. They believe that deep, fundamental, inspiring change is possible! Design is often thought to be cosmetic, just visual – something that designers do to ‘pretty’ things. But the most effective design is that which matches both form as well as function. Good design bases itself on research, understanding the user, careful analysis of data, recognising patterns, process of synthesis, strategising, prototyping and testing.

In today’s service and experience driven economy, it is the ability to define intent, identify user needs with clarity and empathy, the ability to pick apart complex or simple problems, to work collaboratively in teams or individually; that defines a thriving, competitive and unique organisation. Learning the principles of design thinking, methods and application will help you and your organisation grow in a way that fosters creativity, and enables you to tackle the ever changing complexities of work and life.

ThinkFactory’s carefully designed workshops are hands-on, immersive and engaging and can be adapted with ease across various contexts and needs.
