Sursagar celebrates their 43rd Varshikotsav with a music performance on Sunday the 23rd of November 2025 at 5.30 PM at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bangalore
The first concert is by Ojas Adhiya, a top ranking percussionist, as a tribute to the Tabla maestro, Ustad Zakir Hussain. He will showcase how a tabaliya demonstrates the facets of solo as well as accompaniment with the flute. Playing with him is Ashwin Srinivasan, eminent flautist.
The second programme is a vocal recital by Pt. Vinayak Torvi, renowned vocalist, who has completed 75 years. He will be accompanied by Pt Ravindra Yavagal on the tabla and Pt. Vyasmurti Katti on the harmonium.
About Ojas Adhiya,
Ojas, is a child prodigy in music and started playing the table at a very very young age. Over the years he has performed with the greatest of talents in the music world and made a name for himself quite early. Ojas’s mission is to give his excellend in performance and has an esteem to be ‘second to none’ in the field of Indian classical and light music.
Pandit Vinayak Torvi
Internationally renowned musician gifted with powerful resonant voice, aesthetic creativity and technical expertise, his music is consummate to say the least. Panditji comes from a musical lineage of Dharwad, disciple of Gayanacharya Gururao Deshpande (the doyen of Gwalior Gharana) and Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi (the Internationally renowned vocalist of Kirana Gharana), Torvi had rigorous training for 20 years under the gurukul system. A post graduate in Music from Karnataka University, Dharwad, he was under the able guidance of Pt.Mallikarjun Mansoor, Pt. Basavaraj Rajguru and Padmavibhushan Dr. Gangubai Hangal.
Pt.Vinayak Torvi has performed at several National & International level music platforms and is also the recipient of many reputed awards. In addition to being an accomplished musician, Torvi ji is also a composer who has created more than 100 Khayal and Tarana compositions. By founding the Gururao Deshpande Sangeet Sabha in 1983 and hosting events like the All Night Music Festivals , Malhar Utsav, Dharwad Festival, etc he has significantly contributed to the development and preservation of Indian Classical Music in southern India. He is a pioneer in promoting classical music in remote villages by organising the Graama Sangeet Yatra in over 50 villages.
