The paper you write on was once a tree.
The tree was once a seed.
The seed was once… well, that is exactly the kind of question Ila asks.
The Magical Everything by Jenny Pinto is a hybrid graphic novel for middle and high school readers, beautifully illustrated by Sharon Dev. Through Ila’s adventures across evolutionary history, it traces the deep interconnections of life on Earth and asks how we arrived at the crisis we find ourselves in today.
Jenny Pinto will read a section of her book. After that, you will need to roll up your sleeves. In a hands-on paper-making activity, we will discover what regeneration really means. How nature takes everything back and begins again, and why some things, like plastic, disrupt this cycle.
Please note: This session is designed for children accompanied by one adult. Come ready to get a little wet, as this hands-on paper-making session can get delightfully messy!
Around the World in 50 Sundays is a journey that begins, not with a ticket, but with opening a book. In a city like Bangalore where families are always in motion, the BIC Library hopes to offer stillness and a quiet, welcoming space for both parents and children where reading becomes a shared way of being and not a task.
Every Sunday, we open our doors to invite you into a library that listens; building a rhythm of return, a habit of joy and a new community bound not just by books, but by the weekly ritual of reading together.
We welcome your ideas and input. If you have suggestions for children’s events or activities that align with this vision, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out to us at library@bangaloreinternationalcentre.org

Author & Founder, Oorjaa Lighting Design
Jenny Pinto is the founder of Oorjaa Lighting Design, a Bengaluru-based studio that works with natural fibres, agricultural waste, and reclaimed materials to create lighting objects for interiors. She began her career as an ad film producer and director in Mumbai before making a mid-career pivot to sustainable materials and craft. Her deep dive into handmade papermaking led her to set up one of India’s first handmade paper studios, and eventually to a practice rooted in circular design and its relationship with ecology.
Over fifteen years, her work has expanded to include consulting with organic food restaurants and food festivals. In 2024, she published The Magical Everything, a book for young readers on the interconnectedness of nature and climate change. She also introduces middle school children to ecology and the wonders of life on our planet.
