Aadyam Theatre, the Aditya Birla Group Initiative, is on its way to Bengaluru and is set to make its mark in one more city. Stepping onto the city's stage for the first time, Aadyam Theatre presents 'BETRAYAL,' a masterpiece penned by the iconic Harold Pinter.
The play, skillfully directed by Rachel D'Souza and produced by 3 Parts Company, had successful runs in Mumbai and Delhi and now promises to captivate Bengaluru's audience with its gripping narrative.
Harold Pinter’s 'Betrayal' is a beautifully captured love triangle that presents a searingly tender picture of fragile memories, wounded hearts and how easily our grasp over reality can unravel. The play features a stellar cast of proficient actors, including Abir Abrar, Sukant Goel and Vivek Gomber, who do complete justice to their characters that have been interwoven intricately in the play’s engrossing tale.
The play explores the relationships that evolve between the three characters through a series of meetings and conversations. Starting in 1977, the play unfolds in reverse chronology, with lovers Jerry and Emma meeting after a gap of two years. From here, it spirals backward all the way to 1968 to the first transgression when Jerry, Robert's closest friend, declares his undying love for Emma, Robert's wife. Along the way, the audience is drawn into various events in time, and things both said and unsaid create a compelling theatrical experience.
As the director of "Betrayal," Rachel D’Souza brings a wealth of experience and artistic vision to the production. Nush Lewis’s mastery of the Harp allows her to evoke a wide range of emotions, from subtle and delicate melodies to powerful and intense compositions. Her live musical interludes between scenes provide seamless transitions, allowing the audience to immerse themselves deeper into the narrative.
