Mystic saint-poets like Kabir and Meerabai have taken great delight in the possibilities of the sky. Kabir tunes into the subtle music of the sky, the sky-dome is Meera’s cosmic home – a radical foil to the royal fortresses that traps her, and Shah Latif sees clouds in the sky as his companions in grief.
In a world plagued by oppressive violence, can the musical voice of the mystic nudge us towards more justly imagined futures?
This Sunday, RS Connect in collaboration with The Kabir Project presents ‘Aari Gagan Maa (Songs of the Sky)’ - an hour long exploration into the spiritual songs of saint-poets like Kabir, Bulleh Shah, Meerabai, and Shah Latif from the folk oral traditions of India.
We will be joined by Prashant Parvataneni who will attempt to see these poems as portals, to think about ideas of faith, freedom, and compassion. This will be a part of a series of presentations in collaboration with The Kabir Project called, ‘Thinking With Kabir and Other Mystics’.
Featuring songs of these saint-poets, this Sunday’s presentation, ‘Aari Gagan Maa’, will reflect on the borderless quality of the sky, and the politics of play and possibility that these poems hint at.
Come, join us for an evening of exploring mysticism, songs and discussion!
