Narasimharaju, from Bevinahalli in Sira Taluk, learned to play the Are drum—a traditional instrument—despite family discouragement due to social stigma. Driven by passion, he began performing at local fairs, ceremonies, and festivals to support his education. His unique approach to the Are led him to blend traditional sounds with new forms, bringing Dalit cultural expression to the stage. Encouraged by theater artist Manjunath, Narasimharaju introduced the Are in cultural performances, gaining recognition for his role in preserving and innovating folk music. In his upcoming workshop, he will share the stories and traditions of the Are, guiding participants through its rhythms and cultural significance.
