2 FOR THE ROAD features long time associates Indian pianist composer AMAN MAHAJAN and veteran jazz vocalist RADHA THOMAS evoke the intimate charm of voice and piano

In the nuanced duo '2 For The Road' where pianist Aman Mahajan and vocalist Radha Thomas flow in and out of each others souls seamlessly him on the piano and she with her voice.

Their music is original and yet familiar. Strains of jazz intertwine with a hint of Indian music and some solid improvisation to provide the audience a technically complex intricate and fulfilling experience for the non-casual listener.

ABOUT

Aman Mahajan Indian pianist-composer plays improvised music as a medium of exploration expression and exchange. His work is often reflective influenced by a diversity of traditional and contemporary forms from around the world and inspired by a search for unity and connection. His 2019 solo piano album REFUGE explores ideas of home paying homage to inward journeys.

Mahajan has performed widely on the Indian music circuit and internationally at venues including Moods (Zürich 2020) Murszene (Graz 2019) Jazzwerkstatt (Graz 2018) Jazz Utsav (New Delhi 2017) EUROPAFest (Sinaia 2015) Festival of Sacred Music (Thiruvaiyaru 2015) Goa Jazz Festival (Goa 2014) IndiEarth XChange (Madras 2014) Rhythm & Blues Festival (Kasauli 2014) goMAD Festival (Ooty 2013) and MAD Festival (Ooty 2012).

Presently based out of Bangalore he is involved with his solo piano project Refuge and collaborations including Tinctures with Berlin-based guitarist Nishad Pandey a duo with vocalist Radha Thomas and cross-cultural trio Mystik Vibes with percussionist Muthu Kumar and flautist Amith Nadig.

Focussed on the development of the contemporary improvised music in India Mahajan also teaches privately from his piano studio in Bangalore and has been a returning faculty member at the Global Music Institute Delhi.

Radha Thomas is first and foremost a jazz musician composer arranger and band leader (she as been empanelled as the jazz ambassador for India by the ICCR (Indian Council For Cultural Relations);

Radha Thomas began headlining as a singer while still in her teens in a rock and roll band called Human Bondagein the 70s. She soon developed a strong taste for jazz which is her favourite kind of music. She also began combining the tonal complexities of jazz with the rhythmic nuances of Indian classical music.

Radha has represented India at European jazz festivals and made her way to New York the home of jazz where she lived and performed for almost 20 years with such musicians as Michael Brecker John Scofield John Faddis Alex Blake Buddy Williams Harvey Mason Anthony Jackson John Abercrombie Ryo Kawasaki Joe Farrell and many others in some of NYC’s most famous jazz clubs including Sweet Basil The Bottom Line Alice Tully Hall and more.

In a single year from 2020 to 2021 she recorded 52 videos with her original music and jazz standards along with some of the world’s most talented musicians from Russia Poland Italy USA Germany England India and other places. She has never met those musicians and hopes to fix that one day.
