The Acoustic Sessions present : AN OL' FLAMIN' EVENING
An Ol' Flamin' Evening On International Jazz Day April 30th 2022 features veteran jazz vocalist Radha Thomas and teen jazz guitar prodigy Amithav Gautam cooking up an energetic music conversation in their first ever live gig together.
They have met regularly online over the past year creating jazz on the internet making no allowance for differences in age or experience.
ABOUT
Radha Thomas is first and foremost a jazz musician composer arranger and band leader (she as been empanelled as the jazz ambassador for India by the ICCR (Indian Council For Cultural Relations);
Radha Thomas began headlining as a singer while still in her teens in a rock and roll band called Human Bondagein the 70s. She soon developed a strong taste for jazz which is her favourite kind of music. She also began combining the tonal complexities of jazz with the rhythmic nuances of Indian classical music.
Radha has represented India at European jazz festivals and made her way to New York the home of jazz where she lived and performed for almost 20 years with such musicians as Michael Brecker John Scofield John Faddis Alex Blake Buddy Williams Harvey Mason Anthony Jackson John Abercrombie Ryo Kawasaki Joe Farrell and many others in some of NYC’s most famous jazz clubs including Sweet Basil The Bottom Line Alice Tully Hall and more.
In a single year from 2020 to 2021 she recorded 52 videos with her original music and jazz standards along with some of the world’s most talented musicians from Russia Poland Italy USA Germany England India and other places. She has never met those musicians and hopes to fix that one day.
AMITHAV GAUTAM 17 from Chennai has been playing guitar since he was 12 even as he was learning to play classical music on the piano. Initially Amithav discovered the joy of playing the blues and rock through the music of several legendary artists. More recently he has been exploring Jazz through the music of Kenny Burrell Miles Davis Grant Green Lester Young George Benson Hank Mobley Wes Montgomery Art Blakey and many more.
In 2019 he was adjudged Best Guitarist at the All India Band-It competition conducted by the Furtados School of Music. He has also been doing several online collaborations with the likes of Bruce Lee Mani Keith Peters Radha Thomas Vijit Malik Abhay sharma Rythem Bansal and Karan Wadhwa of the Revisit Project among others. He has also done a couple of sessions for a Chennai Based Music Directors.
