ABOUT THE PERFORMER: ALEYNA MOHANRAJ
“I’m past patiently waiting I’m passionately smashing every expectation; Every action is an act of creation” – ‘My Shot’; ‘Hamilton- An American Musical’
This quote from Lin Manuel Miranda’s revolutionary musical ‘Hamilton’ perfectly describes the life of aspiring musical theatre performer Aleyna Mohanraj. Aleyna has been studying and performing musical theatre for over 8 years and plans to pursue a BFA in Musical Theatre Performance.
Aleyna was a part of the Choir tour of the United Kingdom with the Harmony chorus in May 2019, performing in the cities of London, Edinburgh and York. Aleyna designed and conducted a musical theatre workshop called Colours of Music Theatre at The Bangalore School of Music and Fine Arts, in April of 2019. In August, Aleyna travelled to New York to attend the Musical Theatre Intensive at New York University. She was fortunate to train with Broadway artistes and grew immensely in her art. She recently entertained and enthralled the audience with her very first solo concert titled ‘Broadway Melodies’ on December 1st.
For her performance at Urban Solace, she will be performing songs from musicals such as Sound of Music, Singing in the Rain, My Fair Lady, Wizard of Oz, The King and I, Annie and Disney movies such as The Little Mermaid, Mulan, Pocahontas, The Princess and the Frog and many more!
She has earned a diploma in Music Theatre from the prestigious and reputed London College of Music. She has also trained classically completing her Grade 8 in Singing and Grade 6 in Piano under ABRSM.
She worked with the Bangalore Chorus and featured in several critically acclaimed productions in the past few years like ‘Don’t Stop Me Now! (2018)’,‘Big Bang’(2017) , ‘Big Bang Returns’ (2017) and ‘Let The Song Begin (2016)’.
Aleyna has performed at World Music Day Events organised by Bangalore Music School in 2017 and 2018 and continues to seek opportunities to showcase the art of Musical Theatre.
She hopes to one day make it on The Broadway Stage and help spread awareness of this art form in India. She hopes to also come back to India one day and set up a musical theatre company so young children can realise their full potential in the true musical theatre world.
