Event Description

Join us for an intimate evening of contemporary jazz and ambient music featuring Tarun Balani, a seasoned jazz drummer and composer from India, and guitarist Siddharth Gautam. The duo will reinterpret selections from Balani’s albums, Dharma and The Shape of Things to Come, while also introducing elements from his upcoming release. The performance will weave together ambient textures and improvisational techniques, offering a fresh take on Balani’s original compositions. The set aims to create an immersive experience through the fusion of jazz and ambient soundscapes, highlighting the duo’s collaborative approach to music-making.

Tarun Balani Drummer & Composer

Tarun Balani’s music has been recognised for its jazz innovation. His debut album, Sacred World, has been noted for its potential impact on the future of jazz in India. With his latest release, Dharma on Berthold Records, Tarun continues to deliver imaginative and heartfelt music. Tarun performs globally with his genre-bending quartet featuring trumpeter Adam O’Farrill, pianist Sharik Hasan, and guitarist Olli Hirvonen. He also presents a solo live act as Seasonal Affected Beats in India, merging jazz with ambient electronic music to address themes like climate change. His work, including the EPs 2° and In Song, and the album Where the Ice Meets the Water, has been featured on platforms such as WNYC, BBC, GQ, RollingStone India, hr2 Kultur, RedBull Music, and Platform Magazine. For Tarun, music is a deeply personal and spiritual experience, shaping his career as a composer, performer, and educator. His work is driven by a desire to be a holistic artist, drawing inspiration from his Indian roots.

Siddharth Gautam Guitarist & Instructor

Siddharth Gautam’s musical journey began with the tabla in school and evolved into a passion for the guitar during college. For over a decade, he has been active in the music scene, performing at venues ranging from local spots in Bangalore to larger stages in Mumbai. With a focus on jazz and improvised music, Siddharth is recognized as a skilled guitarist and dedicated instructor. His musical experiences have taken him abroad, including a notable performance with his band S.A.S Trio at the World Youth Festival Russia 2024 and the Moscow Jazz Festival. Siddharth has collaborated with bands and artists such as Thermal and a Quarter, The Revisit Project, and has appeared on television shows like Starplus Voice India and Colors Jammin. He has also contributed to projects like AR Rahman’s ARRIVED and toured with Shaan. Endorsed by brands such as Furtados Music, D’Addario and Co. strings, and Walden Guitars, Siddharth is dedicated to sharing his love for music. In addition to performing, he has been committed to music education, serving as a faculty member at the Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music in Chennai and as a consultant at the Global Music Institute in New Delhi. Through teaching, he aims to inspire others on their musical journeys.
