Event Description

Bach’s BWV 565 Toccata in D minor was written for a church organ. Grand, thunderous, built for stone cathedrals. In this solo recital, it comes alive through six strings and ten fingers.

That spirit runs through the entire programme. Music written for the lute, the piano, the operatic voice, the orchestra — each reimagined through the classical guitar. Tárrega transcribed piano pieces and made them sound like the guitar had always owned them. Villa-Lobos heard Bach and Brazilian rainforest in the same breath. Granada, Asturias, Mallorca: works that were composed for other instruments, now impossible to imagine on anything other than the guitar. The recital closes with Pritam Maity’s own arrangements of Leo Brouwer’s music for cajón and guitar duo, performed alongside percussionist Dipnarayan Nath.

Witness the boundaries between instruments, traditions, and centuries quietly dissolve.
