Event Description

The year was 2016. Two classically trained musicians from India, Vinayak Netke and Sabiha Khan, were touring Slovenia as part of an Indo-Balkan project. On one of their concerts, they collaborated with Tilen Stepišnik and Šemsudin Džopa, the immensely talented guitarists of a Slovenian band called Duo Aritmija. The result was Aritmija Fusion, with a unique sound palette and an ever-deepening friendship between the quartet that has gone from strength to strength over the last ten years.

The band thrives on exploring unusual musical arrangements which break the predictable patterns of rhythm. What unfolds is a skilfully woven tapestry of traditional Balkan music combined with rock, jazz, flamenco, Indian classical, Sufi and folk. The masterful chord-play on the guitars by Tilen and Šemsudin, along with the emotive power of Sabiha’s vocals and Vinayak’s exquisite rendering of the tabla, speak to a universal audience, no matter which part of the world or which ethnicity they belong to. Ever since its inception, Aritmija Fusion has performed at several reputed festivals and concerts across Slovenia, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, The Czech Republic and India, consolidating its ethos as a band that believes in music without boundaries and collaborations that build human connections in a wounded world.
