Hindi, English, Punjabi, Marathi, Kannada, and Gujarati | 60 Minutes | Suitable for all ages Ascharya Choodamani is a vibrant theatrical adaptation by Prasanna inspired by the timeless classic, Alice in Wonderland, showcasing a delightful fusion of six languages: Hindi, English, Punjabi, Marathi, Kannada, and Gujarati. Audiences get a linguistic rollercoaster, experiencing a delightful confusion of languages that adds to the comic charm of the production. At the heart of the play is the spirited character of Choodamani, a young girl who radiates joy and curiosity, always seeking out surprises in her whimsical world. Her infectious energy draws the audience into her enchanting journey filled with wonder and laughter. Accompanying Chudamani are three animals, each adding their own unique flavour to the narrative. Their interactions with Chudamani spark lively exchanges and moments of humour, enriching the theatrical experience. One of the standout features of Ascharya Choodamani is its interactive nature, inviting the audience to become actively engaged in the unfolding story. With rhythmic and live songs interwoven throughout the performance, viewers are transported into a world where music and storytelling seamlessly blend, creating an immersive and memorable theatrical experience for all. Director’s Note: Over the past few years, I’ve delved into the realm of Theatre in Education, recognising the profound impact theatre can have on both children and adults alike. In today’s fast-paced world, where digital distractions often take precedence over outdoor activities and meaningful social interactions, it’s imperative that we make efforts to reconnect younger generations with the simple joys of life. Ascharya Choodamani serves as a poignant reminder of the beauty found in community, nature, and human connection. As an initiative of the Indian Theatre Foundation (ITF), this production aims to bridge the gap between modernity and tradition, inviting audiences to rediscover the magic of storytelling and performance art. Through the collaborative efforts of young artists hailing from diverse regions and cultures, we bring to life the vibrant tapestry of Ascharya Choodamani, enriching it with their unique experiences, talents, and musicality. This play is not merely entertainment; it’s a celebration of cultural diversity and a testament to the power of unity. With its humorous and multilingual elements, Ascharya Choodamani promises to captivate audiences of all ages, inviting them on a journey of laughter, reflection, and wonder. With Support from: Artistes Pratik Halge Theatre Practitioner Pratik Halge is a theatre practitioner with an enthusiasm for exploring Indian culture and folk forms through travel and performing across India . Being a theatre degree holder from the Pune University he worked on the government projects related to the folk forms and artists of folk background from the Maharashtra state. Pratik Halge has also been awarded with the scholarship from the Maharashtra Cultural Centre Rangasetu fellowship where he will be deeply researching about the folk forms of Maharashtra linked to the Indian Method in acting. Neha Theatre Practitioner Neha is a dynamic theatre professional with 8 years of experience in acting, writing, and costume design. Committed to Theatre in Education, she enriches children’s learning experiences. Currently pursuing her masters degree, she is actively involved in travel theatre and excels in organising programmes, shows, and workshops with precision and enthusiasm. Bhushan Bhingarkar Actor & Storyteller Bhushan Bhingarkar is an actor, a theatre practitioner, and possesses technical expertise from an engineering background in electronics, adding an artistic flair from a master’s degree in theatre. He has dealt with major projects like Lokakala 2020, a collaborative endeavour with the Pune University. At a very early age, he and his team under their own production, Travel and Theatre, performed a play on the Tamasha folk form of Maharashtra, which they have been working on till date. Under the fellowship of the Kolkata Centre for Creativity, he devised a performance with the techniques of the Indian Method in Acting under the guidance of Shri Prasanna. Additionally, Bhushan Bhingarkar holds experience in working on the screen, and is currently working with Prasanna sir in the Heggodu base, establishing a repertory focusing on their first project, Ascharya Choodamani. Suraj Shinde Actor & Theatre Practitioner Suraj Shinde has a passion for acting and has consistently enriched lives through drama. He holds a master’s degree in theatre from the Pune University. Initially, he practiced Western techniques like Commedia Dell’arte forms and plays such as Macbeth. Furthermore, he explored the Indian Method in Acting, working on projects like Lokakala 2020. Suraj Shinde has performed a play based on the Tamasha folk form of Maharashtra. Through immersive experience, he has created a play titled “The Voice of Folk”. While making these plays, he gained profound insights into the journey of an Indian artist. This led him to collaborate with Shri Prasanna, and together they are working on projects like Ascharya Choodamani. In addition to theatre, Suraj Shinde has also worked on screen, expanding his acting experience across different mediums.
