Event Description

We'll be exploring how we can engage children to actively listen to the stories we read out to them.

So come along and let's pick up some skills to make the stories we read come alive. From Character voices to creating the mood of the storybook, from asking interactive questions to engaging them in tasks, we'll understand how we can read to them in a way that is joyful, engaging and fun.

The workshop is for a duration of 3 hours
No prior storytelling experience is required.
Parents/Participants can bring a book of their choice. Books for toddlers will also be available at the workshop that participants can use.

Workshop will be facilitated by Aruna Ganesh Ram, Artistic Director, Visual Respiration.

About Aruna Ganesh Ram:
Aruna is the Artistic Director of Visual Respiration, a performance company based in Bengaluru. Before Visual Respiration, she was the Artistic Director of Landing Stage, a youth Theatre group in Chennai, where she worked with Young audiences, directing large scale performances of fairytales and folk lore.

Her work goes beyond the linear exploring form, audience engagement and spatiality to present multiple perspectives without resorting to the single narrative. Her work is a composition of images, sounds, characters, poetry and text - sensory and intimate.

Her recent performances include Under Pressure that explores Climate Change & Consumerism (2019) and Stand on the Street, a culinary journey of the streets of India (2017-18). With Water Stories (2019-2020) she is exploring interactive performance for young audiences .

She holds an MA in Advanced Theatre Practice from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Aruna is also an ATSA (Arts Think South Asia) fellow. At the moment, she is an artist-in-residence at WISP Kollektiv, Germany as part of Goethe Institut's Bangalore expanded residency programme. She is also a recipient of the Serendipity Arts Grant for Performing Arts 2019.

She is a mom of a 3.5 year old toddler who loves stories - so she reads them all the time, well almost!:-)
