Event Description

December 1971, Bangladesh.

For the first time, a liberated state. No longer East Pakistan. A hard-won independence, a people pulled through civil war, a refugee crisis, the guerrilla campaigns of the Mukti Bahini, and the military engagement of the Indian Armed Forces.

Through recordings of officers who fought in the war, archival footage, and maps, Subroto Chattopadhyay and Anil P Dere bring the reach and complexity of this history to life. The presentation draws on years of research by The Peninsula Studios into one of the most consequential geopolitical events of the twentieth century.

The session will open to the audience for questions.
