About Becoming Hero    In a realm where Bollywood meets gym culture, Akanksha and Jasmine dance. They push into the hero's world, challenging its boundaries with movements, postures, and actions that unravel the traditional archetype. Becoming Hero is a piece in contemporary dance that probes: What lies beneath the façade of power, strength, and seduction of the illustrious hero? With every thrust and every leap, Akanksha and Jasmine blur the boundaries between might and fragility, sculpting a fresh vision of the hero. The accompanying sound design adds rich texture, layered as it is with extracts of popular Hindi film songs from the 90s.      About the Artists    Akanksha Kumari is a dance practitioner who performs, choreographs, facilitates, and writes/researches dance and movement. She is driven by the notion of ‘Performance’ - in whichever form it might arise, as a powerful encounter. As an artist, she lets her body drive the process and primarily investigates the movements from the everyday Context / Reality. As an artist, she is interested in the vast landscapes or scales of performance. How can dance go beyond bodies? How can it transform, reflect, disturb or question its surroundings or conditions?  Jasmine Yadav, a dance practitioner with a particular interest in exploring dance as a system of care and support for the body. Her practice looks to encourage the body’s pleasure, play, risk and vulnerability; but also its reflexivity and accountability. At present, her practice lies at the intersection of text and movement investigating language around body, intimacy, consent and pleasure.
