Event Description

Beeja Earth Seed, is a powerful and immersive dance production by the legendary Malavika Sarukkai, Bhoomija presents this landmark dance production on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Prestige Centre for Performing Arts (PCPA), Bangalore. This show is in association with PCPA.

Conceived as a bold artistic response to the ecological crises of our times, Beeja Earth Seed is an evocative exploration of humanity’s relationship with nature, memory, greed, harmony, and loss. Through a vitalized language of classical dance layered with dramatic movement vocabulary, music, sound, and light, the production creates a deeply immersive theatrical experience that speaks urgently to the present moment.

Moving away from narratives centred solely on human experience, Beeja gives voice to the unheard presences of the natural world — the tree, the deer, and the swan — inviting audiences to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the Earth.

Beeja Earth Seed brings together an exceptional constellation of artistes, each lending their distinctive voice to this evocative work. Conceived and choreographed by the visionary Malavika Sarukkai, whose artistry continues to redefine the expressive possibilities of Bharatanatyam, the production is enriched by Sumantra Ghosal’s deeply thoughtful script and text narration, which adds a compelling literary dimension and makes the work resonate across audiences. The immersive soundscape is crafted by Sai Shravanam, whose nuanced approach as music producer, director, and sound designer creates a rich auditory world, while the musical compositions of Rajkumar Bharati anchor the piece in a profound classical sensibility. On stage, Kirthika Arvind’s evocative vocals bring emotional depth and texture, complemented by Nellai Balaji’s masterful mridangam, which lends rhythmic vitality and gravitas. The visual experience is heightened by Niranjan Gokhale’s sensitive and sophisticated lighting design, which seamlessly supports the narrative arc. Together, this remarkable team shapes Beeja Earth Seed into a layered, immersive, and deeply moving artistic experience.

Since its premiere in Bangalore in March 2025, Beeja – Earth Seed has travelled across Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chennai, and internationally to The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., where it received wide acclaim for its artistic vision and emotional resonance.

“Beeja Earth Seed evolved as a response to the hard fact that in the last fifty years, Planet Earth has been exploited to dangerous levels for economic growth and profit,” says Malavika Sarukkai. “Through this work, I wanted to step away from the human perspective and bring attention to the voices of the natural world. Beeja asks us to pause, think, and reflect on the fractured world we live in today.”

Speaking about the production, Gayathri Krishna, Managing Trustee, Bhoomija, says, “What makes Beeja so extraordinary is not only its artistic brilliance, but the courage and sensitivity with which Malavika ji chooses to engage with themes that matter deeply to our times. It is rare to witness a production that is so visually stunning, emotionally powerful, and intellectually resonant all at once. Beeja is a truly immersive experience that stays with you long after the performance ends.”

With Beeja – Earth Seed, audiences can expect an evening that transcends the boundaries of traditional performance, offering instead a deeply moving artistic meditation on the world we inhabit and the future we are shaping.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of dance, music, storytelling, and reflection.
