Bhoomija Trust is presenting Aaroha, a music-play, on Aug 23 and 24 in Ranga Shankara. The performance is helmed by stalwarts – Dr. Mysore Manjunath taking care of music, S Surendranath handling the play and Srinivasa Prabhu as the lead actor. At the centre of the performance is a 20-member youth orchestra conceptualized and conducted by Dr. Manjunath. Apart from popular Indian music compositions, the orchestra plays a couple of outstanding pieces written by Dr. Manjunath, who also plays the lead violin. S Surendranath weaves a beautiful story of love through popular poetry and phrases from plays. Srinivasa Prabhu plays the Sutradhar, narrating the lines in his inimitable style and mastery over Kannada. The show has a splendid backdrop by Sri S G Vasudev. Surendranath has also designed the sets and lighting for the performance. The orchestra comprises 12 violins and one each of Sarangi, Cello, Flute and Mandolin, and rhythms. All the musicians are under 25 years of age. “Our Youth Orchestra, which is an attempt to bring outstanding young musicians to work with a maestro takes on a different dimension this time. We are delighted that this first-of-its-kind performance has brought together such exceptional talent. We are very pleased that we get to bring a show to Ranga Shankara, the magical theatre whose acoustics will embrace the rich music and spoken word of this show”, says Gayathri Krishna, the Managing Trustee of Bhoomija.
