Bengaluru audiences are in for a rare and unforgettable experience as Mṛcchakatikam—the beloved Sanskrit classic—is brought to life in the magnificent performance tradition of Kutiyattam, the world’s oldest living theatre form. Directed by G. Venu, this production by Natanakairali is a landmark moment in contemporary classical theatre.
Unlike other Sanskrit plays rooted in divine mythologies and royal intrigues, Mṛcchakatikam (The Little Clay Cart) brims with vivid, humane characters—lovers, gamblers, thieves, monks, and revolutionaries—set in a bustling ancient city. This play is a celebration of love, justice, politics, and human folly. It is earthy, elegant, and endlessly relevant.
