Event Description

Bhoomija Trust, the Bangalore based presenter of performing arts, will present Nrityagram's Surupa Sen in a solo performance titled "Vinati - Songs from the Gita Govinda". The celebrated Odissi dancer will be accompanied by Nrityagram's signature live orchestra.

The show will be at 7 PM on Sat, 4 Dec at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. Tickets priced Rs. 500 are available on insider.in.

All the government mandated Covid regulations will be strictly enforced at the venue.

Surupa Sen is one of Odissi's most prominent exponents. This first student of Nrityagram learnt from some of Odissi's best performers and Gurus and went on to become a guru herself. What sets Surupa apart is her extraordinary and prolific choreography work - her ensemble productions, many a time with dancers of different genres and countries. In her own words, Surupa has been able to work on her dance "like never before" in the pandemic and Vinati comprises a few pieces she choreographed in the last two years.

"We are restarting our regular schedule after COVID, with a prayer in our hearts! We have shows lined up in Chowdiah and other venues of Bangalore and are working towards getting some shows to other cities too. We are grateful to the artistes for agreeing to perform for us and look forward to welcoming the audiences back in a safe environment. A special thanks to the folks at Chowdiah - they are helping in all ways possible to make the come back seamless and practical", says Gayathri Krishna, Managing Trustee of Bhoomija.
