Bhoomija presents Roysten Abel’s magnum opus, A 100 Charmers, to Bengaluru audiences this May. The unique concert will be staged on Sat, 4 May 2024, at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bengaluru. There will be two shows - at 5 PM and a repeat show at 8 PM. The event is presented in association with Jaaga. A 100 Charmers brings together 100 traditional snake charmers, typically solo artistes, in a large-scale orchestra of beens (Indian pipes) for the first time ever. The ensemble will present a wide variety of musical genres to audiences in an enthralling hour-long concert, ranging from the community’s restored traditional tunes to Scottish bagpipe melodies to Bollywood tunes! Conceptualized and directed by celebrated theatre personality Roysten Abel, A 100 Charmers was born at the request of Bahar Dutt and Jeevika Foundation for a noble cause. This one-of-a-kind musical production brings awareness to the plight of the slowly diminishing snake charmer community, adversely affected by the ban on using snakes in performances. The concert also highlights the need for the government to create alternative vocations that employ the community’s traditional skills. A 100 Charmers premiered in 2014 to rave reviews and has since performed on many prestigious stages across the world, emerging as a critical and commercial success everywhere. This is the production’s debut in Bengaluru.
