Event Description

‘ಗುರುತು’ ಅನ್ನುವುದು ಕೆಲವರಿಗೆ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯಾದರೆ, ಕೆಲವರಿಗದು ಅಸಹ್ಯ, ಹಿಂಸೆ, ಜೀವನದ್ದುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಹೊತ್ತು ತಿರುಗಬೇಕಾದ ಹೆಣಭಾರದ ಚಾಕರಿ. ಹಲವು ಬಾರಿ ‘ಉಳಿವಿಗಾಗಿ’ ಗುರುತುಗಳನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿಡುತ್ತಾ ಸಾಗುವುದೇ’ ಬದುಕು’ ಅನ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹರಿಯುತ್ತಾ ಹಗುರಾಗುವುದು ಸಾಗದ ದಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಂಡು ದಣಿವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ದಣಿವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಹಾರಾಡುವ ಬಯಕೆಯನ್ನು ಬಿಡುವಂತೆಯೂ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಕತ್ತಲ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಿಂಚುಹುಳುಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಜೀವ ಆತುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಗ ಕತ್ತಲೊಂದು ಸಂಭ್ರಮ ಬೆಳಕೊಂದು ಸಂಭ್ರಮ. ಹೀಗೆ ಗುರುತಿನ ಸುತ್ತ ಇರುವ ಹಲವು ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣ ವೀರೋಧಭಾಸಗಳನ್ನು ಎದುರುಗೊಳ್ಳುವ ಕಥನಗಳ ಗೊಂಚಲು’ ಬಾಬ್ ಮಾರ್ಲಿ ಫ್ರಮ್ ಕೋಡಿಹಳ್ಳಿ’. ಇಲ್ಲಿ‘ಬಾಬಾ ಸಾಹೇಬ್ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಅವರ ‘Waiting for a Visa’ ಒಂದು ರೂಪಕವಾಗಿ ಕಂಡು ಅವರು ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಕೇಳುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಎಲ್ಲಿಗೆ? ಅನ್ನುವ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

A play on the concealment of caste and identity. The play is set in an urban context. Three characters trying to make a living in Bangalore are forced to leave their house because of their identities. An intimate conversation happens between those three as it is the last night that they are staying there, which reveals the depths of their inner selves to each other.

For some, ‘identity’ is a source of pride, while for others, it’s a source of disgust, violence, and a lifelong burden to carry. Many times, ‘survival’ seems to involve concealing one’s identity, flowing and lightening oneself, only to find that the path doesn’t lead anywhere, leading to exhaustion. Yet, exhaustion isn’t reason enough to give up the desire to soar. In the dark path, one must cling to life for the fireflies. Then, darkness becomes a celebration, light becomes a celebration.

Bob Marley from Kodihalli is a collection of narratives that confront the many complex paradoxes surrounding identity. Here, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s ‘Waiting for a Visa’ becomes a metaphor, raising the crucial question: where is he seeking admission?

This play explores the intricacies of identity, the struggles of concealment for survival, and the persistent hope symbolized by fireflies in darkness. It uses Ambedkar’s work as a central theme to question the nature of acceptance and inclusion in society.
