Sohini Chattopadhyay, a PhD Candidate in the History Department, Columbia University. My dissertation is on the politics mass deaths such as famines and epidemics in colonial India, and the attendant technologies of burial and cremation practices that these events initiated. I am broadly interested in the intersections between British imperialism, social history of India, and the growth of scientific expertise. I edit a journal called Borderlines, which focuses on rethinking social science practices from South Asia, Africa and the Middle East. You can find some of my public writings here.
