Chandralekha - The Lost Courtesan
Chandralekha – The Lost Courtesan:
A Cinematic Odyssey on Stage for a Global Audience
Bengaluru, India – October 4, 2025
The curtains of time and imagination rise as GoBrahma Productions and Shivapriya School of Dance unveil Chandralekha – The Lost Courtesan, a spellbinding dance-theatre phenomenon that transcends the stage and rivals the magnitude of cinema, premiering at the iconic Chowdiah Memorial Hall.
An 85-minute living epic, this grand spectacle fuses the majesty of Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, and Odissi with the elemental forces of music and theatre. More than a performance, it is a portal into the unseen: the tale of a dancer who, within the sanctum of an ancient temple, is drawn into incandescent visions of a former existence as Chandralekha—the legendary courtesan of antiquity. What follows is a swirling constellation of mystery, romance, betrayal, and redemption, where memory collides with destiny and the past seduces the present. Designed with cinematic intensity, the production unfolds like a film breathed alive before the audience’s eyes.
At the helm is Guru Dr. Sanjay Shantaram—virtuoso of Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, actor, vocalist, visionary choreographer, and recipient of the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Award. A prodigy whose artistry has traversed stage and screen, Dr. Shantaram conjures a production both intimate and monumental. Soundscapes are masterfully woven by Praveen D Rao, a polymath composer celebrated for his work across films, theatre, and legendary creations like Malgudi Days and Guddada Bhootha and international productions. The script, textured with lyricism and depth, is crafted by J.M. Prahalad, a National Award-winning lyricist and one of India’s most prolific writers, known for iconic Kannada serials such as Mayamruga, Dandapindagalu, and Mahabharata. His oeuvre also includes 70 films, 8,000+ TV episodes, 10 novels, and 10 stage plays. Together, this stellar triumvirate of visionaries weaves a production that is not merely performed but experienced—a mystic, cinematic odyssey designed for audiences across the globe.
The venture is co-produced by GoBrahma Productions, an avant-garde live experience company founded by Roopa Prasad Doraswamy—Bharatanatyam dancer, triple-qualified lawyer, and global corporate veteran with over 25 years of experience. Having reclaimed her artistic lineage, she envisions GoBrahma as a crucible where Indian classical traditions are reborn for the world stage. With acclaimed works such as Whispers of the River and the Tree and Paschimavahini Krishna, GoBrahma Productions has swiftly established itself as a beacon of professionalism, sustainability, and global vision in the performing arts. Its mission: to empower the next generation of artists while sculpting Indian classical narratives into a language that resonates universally.
