Chitrakathi, inspired by Girish Karnad’s Hayavadana, reimagines the story of Devdatta and Kapil—two friends whose bond is transformed by the arrival of Padmini. Told through a contemporary adaptation of the traditional Chitrakathi form, the performance traces shifting relationships, emotional conflicts and the complexities of desire and identity.

Through a simple narrative style, the production reflects on friendship, love and change, raising larger questions about human relationships and social conditioning. Blending personal emotion with broader observations on society, literature and governance, Chitrakathi presents a reflective portrait of man–woman dynamics in a modern context.
