Taking inspiration from Iyesha Geeth Abbas’ essay in The Momentary and the Monumental, join us for a listening session with Arumugam Murugan as we explore the sounds and music of the Hindi cinema industry. Looking beyond films as finished works, we’ll turn our attention to the things that surround them – songs, recordings, posters, publicity materials, photographs, archives, and other traces that often get overlooked.
What can these everyday objects tell us about the making and experience of cinema? How do they shape the ways we remember films and their music? Through listening and conversation, we’ll explore the stories held within these fragments, and consider how film history can be found not only on the screen, but also in the things that remain around it.
