Join us for the performance Dastan-e-Sitayana by Kafeel Jafri, a Dastangoi retelling of various versions of events described in the Ramayana — from Sita's perspective. Using poetry, prose and songs in Hindustani, the performance narrates the story of Sita, from her being found in a field during sowing season as a newborn, to her being taken into the embrace of Bhoomi, making her Bhoomija or ‘The Daughter of the Earth’. Staying true to the elements of Dastangoi, the traditional Urdu storytelling art form, the performance involves fantasy, love, war and wisdom inherent in the ancient story. This performance has been curated under Living Cultures, the public programming theme for the quarter and MAP’s ongoing exhibition Book of Gold: The Kanchana Chitra Ramayana of Banaras.
