Incentives and institutions, culture and power — this panel discussion examines the intersection of behavioural science, public purpose, and corporate decision-making in contemporary India, centred around Sutapa Banerjee’s new book The Business of Business is (Not) Just Business.
Behavioural economics, the study of judgement and decision-making, has a rich academic history and practical applications across nearly every part of human experience. As public policy think tanks and corporate consultancies increasingly adopt and adapt this research, understanding its core principles has become more important than ever. Drawing on examples from the Indian context, the panel illustrates the relevance and multidisciplinary reach of behavioural insights in shaping both institutions and everyday decisions.
