Event Description

Defending the Caveman is a hilariously insightful one‑man comedy play centered around the ways men and women relate. After a swift exit from a house party our actor sees a vision and gets visited by the mysterious Caveman.
The story revolves around Kabir, a man in his early thirties who finds himself locked out of the house. His wife Trisha has had enough of him and his flawed sense of timing. This gets cemented when he tells her he’s only ‘an hour and a half late’ - she hangs up on him. Kabir breaks the fourth wall and goes into a rant to the audience about what it means to "be a man".
His unique observations range from pop culture, to social situations, to gender conditioning, and his personal experiences. These arguments are tied into the larger conversation around men and women and how different they are. There are repeated mentions of ‘all men are assholes’ and Kabir deconstructs this phrase through an epiphany that came to him one night at a party when someone uttered that very phrase to him, leading to the events of the play.
He enacts an interaction with the Caveman who helps him discover a simple truth about men and women - they are merely different ; women and men have different cultures and histories - women operate under cooperation, while men operate under negotiation.
Kabir hilariously breaks the misconceptions of men being difficult by articulating how they are only different - not often expressive but more emotionally challenged than what most would think.
Kabir’s hilarious outlook is what drives the play forward - he also fills the audience in on how he met his wife Trisha. He even recreates several moments including the Saturday night at the nightclub and reimagines when he first saw her. The play delves into an understanding of man’s soul - from language, choice of words, to simple pleasures, and outlook.
Through Kabir's ranting and playful enactment, the audience discovers man's fundamental connection to the Cavemen - this connection is what makes men inherently focused - which the biological need to hunt. The cavewomen, on the other hand, we see, discover the calendar, hinting at their organizational ability, and inherent ability to multitask.
As Kabir's enactments and interactions continue, the audience begins to discover with him how his own past has shaped the man he is, and his relationship to women.
Just then the light comes on and the door is unlocked for him. Kabir screams with joy and runs into the house.
Defending The Caveman has played in over 50 countries and won hearts worldwide for it's playful, energetic storytelling. It has been praised for being both comedic, and tender; energetically playful, and insightful.
