Ranga Shankara will stage Barbaad on January 2 at 7.30 pm, a Hindi adaptation of Lynn Nottage’s Pulitzer Prize–winning Ruined, presented by Delhi’s Ruchika Theatre Group and directed by veteran theatre-maker Feisal Alkazi.
Set against the backdrop of violent conflict and resource exploitation, the play examines the devastating impact of war on women, tracing themes of violence, survival, and moral collapse. Though originally located in the Congo, Alkazi’s adaptation brings the narrative closer to Indian realities, a process developed with writer Sushant Agarwal over several years.
First conceived for a 2020 premiere but delayed by the pandemic, Barbaad returns in 2025 with renewed urgency, offering a stark reflection on power, complicity, and the human cost of conflict.
