Ranga Shankara hosts Jigsaw, a poignant and bittersweet comedy by Delhi-based Ruchika Theatre Group, directed by veteran theatre practitioner Feisal Alkazi. The play will be staged on 3 January at 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm.
A delightful blend of humour and introspection, Jigsaw begins with an unusual premise: a cantankerous Parsi man on his deathbed asks a female friend to track down three adults conceived from his sperm. Larissa, Haritas and Sweta—now fully grown—are each grappling with their own questions of identity, parentage, relationships and sexuality. As their stories unfold, the play gently pieces together lives shaped by absence, longing and self-discovery.
Performed by a vibrant ensemble of thirteen actors ranging in age from 20 to 70, Jigsaw invites audiences to laugh, reflect, recognise and debate. At its heart, the production is a warm, humane exploration of what family means in a fractured, contemporary world.
The play is directed by Feisal Alkazi, one of India’s most respected theatre directors, educationists and social activists. Based in New Delhi, Alkazi has been active in theatre for over five decades, having directed more than 300 plays, and is best known for his work with Ruchika Theatre Group. His extensive contribution to children’s theatre includes directing over 200 children’s plays across cities such as Delhi, Jaipur, Chennai, Chandigarh and Gwalior. His book for children, Rang Biranga Rangmanch, published by the National Book Trust, has sold over 30,000 copies.
Alkazi’s work spans theatre, television and documentary filmmaking, and his contributions have been recognised with several honours, including the Sanskriti Award for Outstanding Contribution to Theatre in 1987. He is also the founder of Ankur, a society for alternatives in education, and has worked widely as a master trainer using theatre-based methodologies.
