Ekalavya Performing Arts and Picture Wicture Productions present Deshe-Bidweshe, a 2 part play in Bengali. 'Swadhinotar Swapno' (Dream of Freedom), a modern take on the life and times of Khudiram Basu, one of the earliest martyrs in the struggle for independence. With a new age sense and sensibility, we embark upon a journey to understand India. But where is this, India? What is the concept of a nation? What do we, the 'Bulbulein's’ of this 'Gulista', mean by our country that was born from blood, sweat and sacrifices of countless freedom fighters? We will be searching for these answers, along with you, through the struggles of young Khudiram. 'Juddhobaaj' (Warmonger) is a socio-political satire which showcases the perils of war, often glorified under the garb of hyper nationalism. A dystopian world where money is the king, and war is a day-to-day affair, the 'Joddhobaj' or Warmonger becomes the ultimate puppeteer. An eerie soundscape creates the milieu where the actors play multiple roles, and the chorus gleefully reveals the most uncomfortable truths.
