Contrast becomes a catalyst for choreography in conversation!
This edition of Dual Margam brings together the leaping dynamism of Kuchipudi and the sensuous symmetry of Odissi, inviting audiences into a rare encounter between movement vocabularies. Kuchipudi enters with its theatrical lineage of swift footwork, buoyant jumps, and a dramatic pulse inherited from dance-drama traditions. Odissi counters with sculptural grace, curved lines, and a musicality that shimmers through every shift of the torso.
Side by side, they reveal how classical technique carries the soul of a region; how mythology is interpreted through rhythm, how stories are shaped by cultural memory, and how two forms can diverge in grammar yet still speak to the same emotional truth.
An evening that showcases the extraordinary breadth of Indian performance traditions on a single stage.
The Dual Margam series curates two classical dance forms of India to highlight their similarities and differences. The solo performances honour traditional repertoire (the Margam), while the duet will juxtapose each unique form with another.

Shubham Ojha
Odissi
Shubham grew up in a family that balanced tradition and modernity with effortless grace: a household where pharmacy textbooks shared space with music and dance. Introduced to Odissi at just four, he trained under Guru Siva Prasad Chand and Guru Sanatan Nayak, later refining his craft with Dr. (Er.) Srinibas Ghatuary. Today, under the mentorship of Padmashree Guru Dr. Aruna Mohanty at Orissa Dance Academy, Shubham has become a leading voice of his generation: admired for his ability to inhabit contrasting roles and for his gift for collaboration. His journey has taken him across India and abroad, with performances at prestigious festivals including Konark, Dhauli Kalinga Mahotsav, and the International Odissi Dance Festival. For many young dancers, he represents what dedication, imagination, and disciplined artistry can shape.
Gururaju N
Kuchipudi
Kuchipudi found Gururaj early and he held on tight. Under the rigorous and inspired guidance of Smt. Vyjayanthi Kashi—SNA awardee, renowned dancer, and celebrated guru—he grew into one of India’s most distinguished male Kuchipudi artists. As part of the Shambhavi Dance Ensemble, he has travelled from Africa to Europe to the Middle East, performing in over 500 productions choreographed by his guru. His solo performances at national festivals have earned both critical acclaim and heartfelt audience appreciation. Artistic Director of Chandraguru School of Dance and an accredited Doordarshan artiste, Gururaju has also served as assistant teacher for Spic Macay’s Kuchipudi workshops. Honoured with titles such as the Ram Gopal Best Male Soloist Award, Nalanda Nrithya Nipuna, and the AryaBhata International Award, he is celebrated for movements that flow with grace and a command of form that mesmerises.
