Event Description

Inspired by the futures-thinking section of Befizuli sawaal, this is a tabletop worldbuilding session where small groups build an entire speculative world from scratch — no prior experience needed. Participants enter through a “portal” into a world that doesn’t yet exist, shaping it across three layers: Planetary Conditions (waste, water, energy, climate), Social Systems (power, ownership, hierarchy, with a nod to Sultana’s Dream), and Future Shock, where near-future, Black Mirror-style developments (carbon budgets, air subscriptions, predictive AI) force the group to adapt what they’ve built. Each table gets a unique set of visual prompt cards, so every world evolves differently — and by the end, groups have collectively imagined, negotiated, and stress-tested a society of their own, discovering what future they’d actually want and what it costs to sustain it. Before the game begins, a short intro walks participants through ways of thinking about futures, plausible, probable, preferable, giving them a shared vocabulary to build with. At the end, every table’s world gets brought to life, we animate each group’s cutouts in Canva, turning their static map into a short moving snippet of their world. So every participant leaves with a tangible output to show. Facilitator: Shubh R Wadhwa, Founder and Editor of Kacha Mucha Magazine I’m a creative educator. That’s code for, I use visual design to tell stories, make ideas easier to understand, and hopefully spark a little curiosity along the way. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to exhibit my work at the Lalit Kala Akademi, spend a brief minute teaching at Tapmi, Manipal, NID (National Institute of Design), and work alongside farming communities to help bring their stories to urban audiences. I tend to think of design not just as something that looks aesthetic, but also as a tool for social impact. Kacha Mucha is an extension of that belief.
