Maricha knows how this ends.
Cursed and exiled, he transforms into a golden deer to deceive Sita and draw Rama into the forest. The trap works. It also destroys him.
Enam, Malayalam for deer, traces the arc of a character usually reduced to plot device. What does it feel like to be the bait? To know your role, hate it, and play it anyway?
Karthik Manikandan choreographs and performs this solo Bharatanatyam production, pulling Maricha out of the Ramayana’s margins. The demon. The deer. The destiny he cannot escape.
