Event Description

The first film in the series German Kino @ Suchitra in 2025, is Franky Five Star by Birgit Möller. German Kino is a curated monthly series of German films shown at the Suchitra Film Society.

Elena, called Franky, is still looking for her place in life. She works in a drinks store, lives with her friend Katja, lets herself drift and shyly adores her neighbor Roman. Asked by her mother about a plan for her studies and a boyfriend, she escapes into her head to four imaginary alter egos. They reside in a run-down five-star hotel and each represent a different side of Franky. Whenever it gets too much for Elena, she retreats into her head and leaves the field to the childlike Lenny, the lascivious Ella, the system-critical Frank or the self-possessed Mrs. Franke. Depending on who enters the elevator and thus gains the upper hand, Franky acts and gets into embarrassing, confusing and crazy situations that lead to ever greater chaos. At the same time, Franky also fights against the various voices and tries more and more to gain the upper hand himself. Especially when, of all things, a romance with Katja's new boyfriend Hasi begins. And yet her most fervent wish is to have sex for once. When she finally finds herself without a job, a girlfriend and an apartment, Franky makes a big, radical break for freedom and blows up her own head cinema.
