Event Description

Bengaluru has 9.4 million vehicles in an area of just around 820 square kilometers, making it the third worst air polluted city in India. This causes 12,000 deaths and a loss of Rs. 12,000 crores annually. There are many other challenges concerning mobility in the city - lack of sufficient cycling lanes, lack of green spaces, outdated and polluting buses, inaccessible footpaths and much more.

These issues also prevent cities from being truly inclusive and equitable. The absence of equitable infrastructure in Indian cities hampers women’s ability to move around and participate in the city freely, making their experience very different from that of men

While there is a lot of emphasis on pointing out these issues about mobility in Bangalore by many there is not enough discussion on solutions. And while there are few efforts to introduce the solutions, these are easily overlooked due to lack of interactive mediums for presenting them.

To bridge the gap between green ideas and stakeholders who can implement and benefit from them, Jhatkaa.org is organizing a multi-day festival along with Bangalore Creative Circus, which helps citizens, decision makers, non-profits and corporates to envision a better Bengaluru - We are calling it Future City Bengaluru.

About Future City Bengaluru:

Future City Bengaluru is a three-day festival on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of June 2022 at Bangalore Creative Circus with stalls, events, workshops, performances, competitions and live art featuring an interactive augmented reality display that transports a viewer into a cleaner and greener future of Bengaluru.

The aim of the festival is to engage and activate citizens in an ongoing conversation between the city, technology, sustainability, innovation, and action using events, talks and augmented reality.

Augmented Reality Display - Concept:

A location specific mixed-reality AR installation that engages users with constructs of sustainable urban mobility for our Future City.

The digital display would show a view of the same location – but with an added augmentative reality layer, that showcases what a sustainable version of the location could look like with more pedestrian space, cycle lanes, electric buses, charging points for electric vehicles, free of emissions from fossil fuels vehicles and with clear, blue skies.

Inclusive and equitable Bengaluru:

For cities to be truly inclusive and equitable, their physical and social infrastructure needs to be designed accordingly. The absence of equitable infrastructure in Indian cities hampers women’s ability to move around and participate in the city freely, making their experience very different from that of men.

Jhatkaa.org is committed to an inclusive and equitable India. Our stalls will feature the mobility campaigns demanding well-designed and accessible public transport, well-lit streets, wide footpaths, child-care facilities in bus and metros, and so on.

Who is attending:

At Future City Festival, we are inviting an audience that is interested in aspects like sustainability, mobility, climate and the likes and it would be a great chance for organizations to directly engage people in their ideas and offerings. Not just that, we are also going to have important decision makers, bureaucrats and politicians across the festival, and this would help companies have conversations with those who hold power to see how they can expand and build meaningful networks.

We've previously displayed the installation in Delhi in December 2021 and that garnered 10 million plus impressions. We're expecting 30 million plus impressions for the Bengaluru festival with a footfall of approx 6-8k people.

Date: 3rd to 5th of June 2022
