Prithvi Chandavarkar
A Reading and Discussion on A.K Ramanujan's essay, 'Who Needs Folklore?'.
5:15 PM - 6:15 PM
The essay talks about how orally transmitted folktales form the bedrock of what has come to be called canonised literature. It also details how different languages apart from Sanskrit hold a wealth of stories in themselves.
The session will be an appreciation of all that is often otherwise relegated to chats with grandparents, bedtime stories and tales from wayside chai shops.
A. K Ramanujan reminds us of the importance of multiple narratives and interpretations, and how some of them are conveniently subsumed, and many more are left forgotten.
