Event Description

About Guldasta-e-Ghazal:

Guldasta-e-Ghazal is an ensemble of four diverse artists who, by a quiet stroke of coincidence, found themselves connected through ghazals. We seek a collective sound where each of us folds into the other, where talent does not stand apart but carries, blends, and complements.

In our mehfil, we present some of the celebrated ghazals of Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali, Jagjit Singh, Fareeda Khanum, Hariharan, Asha Bhonsle, and others, melodies that are still warm in our hearts. We hope to take you into that realm of nostalgia and romance, where music and poetry dissolve into one gentle breath.

About the artists:

Mazha S

Hailing from Kerala, India, Mazha S Muhammed is a Hindustani vocalist celebrated for her soulful renderings of Thumri and Ghazal. She began performing at the age of fifteen, gracing stages in India and abroad with her expressive interpretations of semi-classical music. Mazha was first introduced to Hindustani music by Shri Nalin Moolji, who, recognizing her calibre, directed her toward advanced training. At sixteen, she became a disciple of Pt. Nagaraj Rao Havaldar, an exponent of the Kirana Gharana, and has continued her journey for over a decade under the guidance of Shri Omkarnath Havaldar. She later refined her artistry in Thumri under Smt. Ruchira Kedar, disciple of the legendary Vid. Girija Devi. A recipient of the prestigious Commonwealth Foreign Fellowship, Mazha worked at the Department of Music, Durham University, UK, where she deepened her knowledge through engagement with Western musicians. During her time in the UK, she also collaborated with international artists and performed in London and Durham, weaving together tradition and contemporary soundscapes. She has performed on prestigious platforms including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Book Festival (Thrissur), the Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademi Music Festival (Palakkad). Recently, she has collaborated on multiple albums with Grammy Award-winning musician Ricky Kej.
