About Guru Shishya:
The state of Karnataka is unique for being a region that has had deep roots with both Hindustani classical as well as Carnatic music. Prior to independence, North Karnataka was an integral part of Bombay Presidency and parts of the Kingdom of Mysore were annexed to the Madras Presidency during British rule. First Edition Arts presents the past and present of these cultural exchanges in this series of concerts.
The programs will have guru/shishya pairings that bring forth repertoire, compositions and lesser known composers from the state before a contemporary audience. These concerts seek to help inform audiences about the unique aspects of both Hindustani and Carnatic music as it is practiced in this region.
The Guru Shishya series is presented by First Edition Arts.
