Queer Comics Edition

What if you could hold a newspaper from the future?

A newspaper filled with happy queer news: the big changes you’re waiting for, the small everyday joys you want to see celebrated, and the wonderfully niche stories that deserve a headline of their own.

Together, we’ll make that newspaper.

Through the session attendees would explore what the news would look like when queer people are thriving. Happy news about queer families, education, politics, neighbourhoods, relationships and workplaces? What are we celebrating? What has changed? What still feels wonderfully ordinary?

Using printed newspaper templates, each person will dream up a joyful news page of their own. Turn a hopeful news story into a short comic, draw a poster announcing a future celebration, or invent an advertisement for something that doesn’t exist yet but should. We’ll explore the visual formats that make a newspaper feel alive.

You don’t need to be an artist, writer or journalist to write about hope.

At the end, we’ll bring everyone’s pages together into one big, multilingual queer newspaper from the future, filled with the news we hope to read ten years from now and wish we could read today.

About the Speaker:

Priya Dali is a work-in-progress human, illustrator, and creative director of Gaysi Family, an LGBTQIA+ community platform dedicated to making queer art, culture, and entertainment a part of the everyday landscape of India. Priya is a Forbes India 30 Under 30 awardee and the co-founder of Are You Serious?, a creative studio working at the intersection of design and social impact.  In her free time, she deludes herself with sapphic love stories, dreams of making queer children’s books, and draws bad jokes.
