“Shadows in Time” by South Korean dance artist Hobin Park, presented in association with InKo Centre Chennai, is a requiem for the lives lost at the hands of political violence that exemplifies the unifying power of the experience of historical pain and the power of resistance, evoking absence and loss as well as the need to conceal our disillusionment with structures of power. “Re-Start” by Daniela Valente (Italy) investigates individual perceptions about the importance of being able to start again, to experience a new beginning, and then keep that energy alive, while “Skimming over” by Jayachandran Palazhy explores fragments of fleeting events from daily life in a light-hearted and playful way. The evening will also showcase ensemble works by Bharatanatyam Guru and choreographer Minal Prabhu and Tevarattam and Silambham maestro Nellai Manikandan as well. “Shadows in Time” is a requiem for the lives lost at the hands of political violence. Also, Dance Mosaic will feature “Cinematic Experiment Wall Piece #1 (mute)”, a screen-based work by Australian Digital Artist Margie Medlin that deploys darkness at the edge of a cinematic frame like a theatrical wing, with dance and graphic material combined as interventions that intertwine spatial and temporal worlds, creating what Sergei Eisenstein, called the ‘dynamic square’, a container with malleable proportions responding to the aesthetic needs of the artist. The evening will also showcase “Alphabet”, commissioned by MAP, a screen-based work created by Kunihiko Matsuo (Japan), Jayachandran Palazhy, and M. D. Pallavi.
